snippet: Map shoreline regulation areas
summary: Map shoreline regulation areas
accessInformation: In 2002, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was actively involved in nearshore habitat monitoring and supported the establishment of the Derelict Vessel Act passed by the 2002 legislature to clean up abandoned marine vessels. This US pork project allowed the State DNR to collect data for its Shoreline Management Act (SMA) requiring all counties and most towns and cities with shorelines to develop and implement Shoreline Master Programs. The law also defines our role in reviewing and approving local programs. The SMA was passed by the Washington Legislature in 1971 and adopted by voters in 1972. Its overarching goal is "to prevent the inherent harm in an uncoordinated and piecemeal development of the state’s shorelines."

Rights of way entities may overlap completely or partially. Rights of way polygons/regions have been created for almost all rights of way to assist with cartographic applications only. This data layer is currently being reviewed for redesign of content and naming of the data set and attributes.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
